I know I am in a small minority, but I was a big fan of "Pacific Rim" in 2013.
I know many people who couldn't stand it, but I am not one of those people. I enjoyed the film very much, in a summer that was pretty abysmal for the most part, it gave me just what I needed. It wasn't simply a giant robots versus giant monsters movie. It could have been, but it wasn't. I liked the ideas created. I loved all the actors in the film. Yes, they may have been given some quasi-cheesy lines to say, but that was all part of the fun of the movie. The movie was a big blast, and it seems people were busy looking for nitpicks instead of sitting down and enjoying the ride.
I am happy to see a sequel, and even though Guillermo Del Toro isn't returing as director, I am perfectly happy with Steven S. DeKnight taking over. "Spartacus" is one of my favorite shows in quite awhile, one where I feel I have to binge every few years, otherwise I don't feel right. I also was a huge fan of the first season of "Daredevil," which he was a showrunner for. I am interested to see how he handles a big movie production, since it seems like he has worked mainly in television.
It looks like very few of the original characters are returning for this movie, but that's okay. Anything with Charlie Day in it quickly has my attention. I think John Boyega will be a welcoming addition to this franchise. The robot action looks to be so gargantuan that we will be in for a major treat.
Plus, how can I not like a trailer that has Tupac Shakur on it?
