Last night, I released a first look at the year 2016 in film, I mainly focused on the superhero films, sequels and other big blockbusters coming out this year. Now, I wanted to focus more on the quieter movies coming out this year. Movies I think you should take a look at as the year wears on.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
This comes out next week (January 15th) and I always like a good old military movie. The commercials look good.
The Finest Hours (January 29th
I also like a good old fashioned rescue movie. This one has a great cast and looks like it could be good. I am looking forward to it.
Hail, Caesar! (February 5th)
Any year with a new Coen Brothers movie is a year to get excited for. I especially like the comedic side of the Coen's just as much as their dramatic stuff. Once again, they have put together an impeccable cast and I can't wait to see them crush it.
Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (February 5th)
Because why not?
Eddie and the Eagle (February 26th)
Michael Edwards, better known as Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, is a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. With Taron Egerton as Eddie and also starring Hugh Jackman, I am excited for this. I have heard good things at early film festival screenings.
The Witch (February 26th)
Finally, a horror movie built on atmosphere and mood instead of a shaky camera. I read outstanding things about this one, oh I can't wait!
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (March 5th)
Tina Fey earned some big points after "Sisters," a movie that was much better than I originally thought. This has a good cast going for it and I will be interested to see how Fey gives this material a humorous edge.
Midnight Special (March 18th)
A science fiction film from the guy that gave us "Mud" and "Take Shelter?" Yep!
Everybody Wants Some (April 15th)
An early 1980's comedic sports movie made by the guy who made "Dazed and Confused" and the movie will be in the vein of "Dazed and Confused." I'm excited!
Moana (November 23rd)
This is going to be Disney's major non-Pixar, non-live action release this year, and I am actually eager to take a peak. I think Disney has hit a new stride of creativity lately (even though I think "Frozen" has become way overrated now.) I am looking forward to see the first trailers for this.
Between last night's list and this, I think you have a huge amass of films to look forward to this year. I hope to enjoy it all and I hope you do too. And these are just lists of movies I have been tracking, who knows what out-of-the-woods surprises are waiting around the corners this year. I hope to love it all!
