Who Played It Best? Danny Ocean

I apologize greatly for being so many weeks late on this latest edition of Who Played It Best, I had a busy holiday, but it was a fun holiday. Now that I am once again writing regularly, I have decided to turn back to my annual columns.

Who knew "Ocean's 11," the groovy, little heist thriller starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and a whole host of other great actors was a remake? Yep, it sure was. Frank Sinatra, along with the rest of the Rat Pack made "Ocean's 11" first. But despite The Rat Pack having first dibs, the two outcomes could not have been more different. I mean, just watch the video below:
Gosh, now that i think of it, watching Bernie Mac or Don Cheadle with his English accent singing that song would have been cinematic gold. Miss opportunity.

Even though The Rat Pack came first, and both versions of the movie were very different, Frank Sinatra and George Clooney played Danny Ocean similar. Danny Ocean was always a suave leader and that's exactly how Sinatra and Clooney approached the character. So my question is, who played the character best?

My Two Cents
So while Danny Ocean might have been the same character in both movies, the actual movies themselves were very different. The old "Ocean's 11" was a big, fun adventure, while the new version was a crafty, heist thriller with a pinch of revenge and also a surprise ending. The movies couldn't be more different from each other, and while that may not seem like a huge difference, it can actually affect the way we view both actor's performances. I personally gravitate toward George Clooney simply because he showed more substance. His character was given much more to do, and Clooney showed all he could do, so his portrayal looks better to me. As much as I love Frank Sinatra, his portrayal of Danny Ocean is just Sinatra being himself. The same could be said about Clooney and the rest of the cast, but they give themselves much more to do, therefore I give Clooney the edge.

Agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comment section below or email me at You have until next Wednesday to vote, and yes, I mean this time.

So this may seem like ages ago, but the last time I did a "Who Played It Best?" it was between Sissy Spacek and Chloe Moretz for their portrayal of Carrie White. The results are in, and here is how the voting shook out.
can't beat a classic
