Who Played It Best? Conan The Barbarian

WHO PLAYED IT BEST? CONAN THE BARBARIAN
Of all movies to ever get remade, I never thought I would see the day when "Conan The Barbarian" got the re-homage treatment. It always seemed to me that the "Conan" movies would always become somehow overlooked. For me, I always liked Arnold Schwarzenegger as a presence, but not so much as an actor. I don't mean to attack the guy, because I love him. But let's face the facts, Schwarzenegger has built a career on lowered eye-brows, huge biceps and zany one-liners. He has never been much of an actor, but in the world of action cinema, he never necessarily had to be. With that said, I think Schwarzenegger hit a career high with his two "Conan" movies, and I think he worked onscreen in a way he didn't until he became a Terminator. It seemed the Conan character fit into his personality somehow and he lit up the screen like never before. Then a few years ago, Jason Mamoa gets hired for a "Conan The Barbarian" remake, and my question is, who played the character better?

My Two Cents
This isn't tough for me, because I respect Arnold Schwarzenegger and I really enjoyed what he did as Conan. It seemed Jason Mamoa created a lasting impression after his only season on HBO's "Game of Thrones," but his film career never really reached the high he hit on that show. I watch the 2011 "Conan The Barbarian" and I don't get anything off of his character. Maybe it was the way it was written and maybe Mamoa couldn't really connect with how the character was written. It seemed to me that the screenwriters for the 2011 remake had to make sure what the audience was going to watch was a remake. I am extremely curious to see how Mamoa brings Aquaman to life for DC, because if the script is right, he could be very good as the character. But for "Conan The Barbarian," he was only given a one-dimensionally written character, I thought. And I don't feel he was given the direction to breathe life into that character. For these reasons, I am giving the edge to Schwarzenegger.

LAST WEEK? WHO PLAYED IT BEST? JOE DOUCHETT/ OH DEA-SU
One of the greatest foreign films of the last twenty years (in my humble opinion) went up against its American remake last week. Josh Brolin was pitted against South Korean actor Choi Min-sik. The results are in...
...and we have our first international winner. Very cool, if you ask me.

YOU HAVE UNTIL NEXT WEDNESDAY TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE PORTRAYAL OF CONAN THE BARBARIAN.
