There was a time when “Captain America 3” and “Batman
vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” were set for the same summer date in 2016. While
it would have been awesome to see Marvel and DC duke it out for the box office
dollars, I figured one studio would move their film. It is a question no money,
just like what motivate all of these decisions. The economic loss for the
opening weekend dollars would actually hurt both films had they been released
on the same weekend. It seemed everybody on the internet community had an idea
of who would move and tonight the answer has been given.
It seems that Warner Bros. (WB) and DC have decided
to move “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” to March 25th 2016.
Some of you are already dreading the film just over the release date. Honestly,
I can understand the hesitation. March has never been a month to wring in the
big blockbusters, but let’s face it, times are changing. “Captain America: The
Winter Solider” came out on April 4th this year, another month that
is not known for its blockbusters. It seems studios are beginning to become competitive
with their big-money machines, and they are trying to find some prime real
estate. So I would relax a little bit, I don’t think this move has anything to
do with the quality of the movie, it is just an opportunity to really make some
serious money its opening weekend.
Also today, WB also released something else, it is
(you guessed it!) a new schedule of release dates. I will say that the schedule
I posted a few months back was just a rumored schedule; this is indeed an
official schedule. Though, it is just dates, there are no titles attached to
any of the dates. They are as follows:
“Batman
vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” 03/25/2016
Untitled

So
this is quite a list of dates, to say the least. Wondering what they could
possibly be? Well, let’s look at what’s been confirmed. We know we have a solo
Wonder Woman movie somewhere in the ballpark of 2017 or 2018, so I am sure that
is one of the films on the list. We know they are shooting for a solo Batman
movie in 2019, so I am thinking that for one of the 2019 dates. Some have
speculated that the “WB Event Films” are the Justice League movies, however I
think that is not correct. I feel they would indicate if they were DC-related.
This has led people to guess that the Event Films maybe the Harry Potter
spin-offs, no matter what, I don’t think they are DC-related, I think they will
be another big WB tentpole they have up their sleeve. There seems to be serious
talk about a Shazam movie, so that could potentially be one of the dates. I
also think that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “Sandman” as well as the “Fables” movie
could be dates in the roster. On the rumored schedule, I thought a Flash/Green
Lantern team-up seemed a little awkward, and I don’t think that film will be
happening at all.
This
is all my speculation, I will not even pretend like I have any sort of insider
information, because I definitely do not. This is my best guess and that is
half the fun. What do you guys make of these dates?
