Here are some stories circling around movies tonight.
Live Action Dumbo?
I have heard people say that we are living in a world of over-saturation when it comes to superhero movies. I would say that we are being bombarded by not only superhero movies, but I think Disney is REALLY cashing on all of their classic titles. Why? I am not exactly sure, perhaps they are trying to reach out to a new generation audience? That is my only guess. All I know is that we have live action versions of "Alice In Wonderland," two versions of "Snow White" and we had a prequel called "Oz: The Great and Powerful." We saw the anti-Sleeping Beauty a la "Maleficent" last month. We also have "Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast," "Pan," and "The Jungle Book" on the way. Now Disney has announced that a live-action "Dumbo" movie is on the way.
This is puzzeling, as I am not sure how big of a fanbase "Dumbo" ever had. As I sort over my favorite Disney classics, "Dumbo" slides down to the end of the list. What are your thoughts on the recent need for Disney to adapt their classic stories to a live-action format. Will this essentially be a good idea?
Kevin Smith's "Tusk"
The poster above is for Kevin Smith's upcoming movie "Tusk." It will be a horror movie about a killer who dresses up like a walrus, or something of that manner. I have definitely found Smith's sudden slide into horror interesting to say the least. But with a premise like that, I wonder if we will see any comedic tropes from classic Smith finding themselves in the film.
The first trailer for "Tusk" will appear at San Diego Comic-Con later this month. The film will star Michael Parks, Justin Long, Genesis Rodriguez and Haley Joel Osment.
