Who Played It Best? Catwoman

Who Played It Best? Catwoman
"Who Played It Best?" will be a weekly poll on my blog. Each Wednesday, I will collect a group of actors known for playing the same character in the movies. You will have the entire week to vote for who you felt played the character the best. I will announce the winner next Wednesday.

Out of any superhero ever written, Batman has the most impressive rogues galleries. The villains Batman has been pitted against really create a strong challenge for the hero. But the villains are more than that, Batman's villains have paralleled a piece of Batman's personality. Both Batman and Riddler possess keen intelligence, and Riddler is hell-bent on proving he is smarter than Batman. The Joker is a loose canon and feels everybody will eventually fall to madness, while Batman tries to suppress his madness. I could go on and on, but there is a reason why Batman has survived through seventy-five years of storytelling, his character and his villains tell it all. Having villains that reflect his personality makes his stories much more interesting. In Catwoman's case, she was wronged by the world the same as Batman was, and she plans to do something about it, even if it means going outside the law. Catwoman has always been a badass, and she has always looked good portraying such a personality.

Catwoman is also an interesting character because she toes the line between hero and villain, which has made her presence unbalanced in both comics and movies alike. If we look at the films featuring Catman, she has been a villain, hero and anti-hero, and I love that we have seen every face of the character. While I feel one or two faces completely outshines the other, I am happy that somebody at least tried to make all the faces look good and do justice to the character. Tonight, we will look at Michelle Pfeiffer; who played Catwoman in "Batman Returns," Halle Berry; who played Catwoman in "Catwoman," and Anne Hathaway; who played Selina Kyle (aka "Catwoman") in "The Dark Knight Rises." So I am wondering which actress played the role best?

My Two Cents
This battle will fall between Pfeiffer and Hathaway. The Halle Berry portrayal doesn't even register with me and was blasphemy of the character and her story. So I think its safe to say that Berry has been ruled out. But when it comes down to Pfeiffer and Hathaway, the choice is hard. I felt both actresses brought their A-game when they signed on to the character, and they will be highly remembered in the character's mythology. Not only that, but Pfeiffer and Hathaway both play a very dark version of the character, so playing compare and contrast between the two portrayals maybe much easier. But this is just my opinion, Berry could swoop in for the win and completely blindside me. We shall just see.

Which version of the character do you prefer? Let me know by next Wednesday. You can start voting today. You can email me ( or just simply leave a name in my comments section below.

Last night Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder went head-to-head between who played Willy Wonka the best? While the portrayals were much different, they both did well with the part and now we will learn who played the chocolate hermit best.
Gene Wilder
