A year ago today, I launched this blog. Movies have been a huge part of my life since I could walk and talk. They have shaped the person I have become and continue to shape the person I wish to be. I love movies because I feel they are more important than meets the eye. Movies give us a peak at other cultures all over the world. They are all encompassing pieces of art, and they speak for us. They are brilliantly crafted stories that are told everyday. They are always playing, always readily available in a capacity that was not imaginable several years ago. I can't imagine my life without them. I have written about film before I started this blog. I belong to several forums on other various film sites, I comment on articles daily, I used to post articles on my Facebook page. But, I was always told that I should do something a little more exclusive. I always wanted to do it eventually too. It was the sudden death of Roger Ebert that broke the camel's back.
I did not really know what to expect when I started this blog, but I wanted to write. All I knew was no matter how big or small my impact would be, I wanted to make my voice known. I wanted an outlet to really dig deep into my thoughts. Anybody who stumbled upon it, let alone read it regularly, would be a bonus. I am happy to say that over the year, my blog as received a little over 23,000 hits. Most of my readers are American, but I am equally happy to report that some of those hits have also come from readers all over the world. No matter what corner of the globe you reside in, I give you my thanks for reading my blog. Even if you read it once, you gave me some exposure, you know I am out there. If you enjoyed what you read, I hope you told your family and friends about it. If not, then I am still very thankful that you checked out my little blog.
I write this blog for free, I am not paid a single cent for anything I do here. I am motivated to write everyday by one idea: love for film. I have loved talking about film all my life, no matter what movie, no matter what genre. So it is easy to say that writing this blog has been fun and easy. I hope you have enjoyed reading it.
Now I also wanted to take this time to give you guys an idea of what to expect in this upcoming year. The first year of my blog was very special, and I am hoping to make this next year equally special. So one thing I want to add to this blog this year is including the readers more. I had a ball with my own personal March Madness Movie bracket, and I definitely want to make another one next year. But I also want to add more poll type posts to my blog. I love it when you guys get in-depth in conversation about this or that, so I want to motivate that conversation as much as possible. Starting tomorrow, I am going to start one of my very own polls, were you can vote for something and if you want, discuss why you voted the way you did. I hope it is fun, and I hope you all follow along with my experiment.
The next big idea for the blog is a game-changer. It is such a big game-changer that I don't even know if I'll do it. If I do it, then it will not start until 2015. The reason for that being because I need to improve my knowledge a little bit more before I start talking. I never like to discuss something halfheartedly. I like have somewhat of an idea of what I am discussing before I discuss it. So here it goes. Starting in 2015, I am planning to revamp this blog into a TV & Movie blog.
Many of you have asked if I will ever discuss TV on this blog, and I always wanted to keep it exclusively about movies. I have certainly discussed TV to a degree here, but for the longest time I was not a fan of TV. I watched movies a lot more often, and never had the time to commit to a show, and growing up, I never came across a show I thought was good. Thanks to Netflix, committed friends, and more open heart, I am watching more TV shows than I ever have before. I have been telling people for several months that I think we are living in a golden age of television right now. The quantity, as well as the quality of television today is at a standard it has never touched before. Which is probably why I am rabidly committed to it now. So I've been itching about it, and I know some of you have been itching about it too. So I am seriously considering including TV posts on this blog. Much like I review movies, I would review TV episodes weekly of certain shows. I would never have the time to review every episode, of every show, every night. So I'd try and focus on the shows that are really trending right now. I'd also include TV news with my "Hollywood Grapevine" posts and just revamp into "The Grapevine" posts. I think the big emphasis would always be for movies, but there would definitely be a big TV element that I would be including on this blog.
What do you guys think of this? Do you guys like the idea of voting and getting more involved with certain aspects of my blog? Do you think next year I should reorganize this blog into a big screen/small screen endeavor? Or do you like the exclusive movie talk? Depending how you all feel about my ideas will answer whether or not my ideas are good. So please, let your voice be heard. If you like these ideas, please let me know.
This blog always was for the people, so if you have your own ideas for my blog, stuff that you'd like more of, please let me know. Also, if you ever want to post your reviews or news, please send an email and I'll post your articles in my blog. I am always open to "guest writers" so please never shy away from that.
It's been a really great year, let's make another great one!
