Its been nine years since "Sin City" blew our minds in 2005. Honestly, I thought it would never be made. I thought a sequel to "Sin City" would be all talk. Despite all the possibilities, despite all the stories still yet to be told that Frank Miller wrote. I am not sure why Rodriguez sat on this one for so long, even his cast doesn't know. But after 8 years empty hype and a year of being held back, "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" is finally heading to a theater near us.
I loved everything about "Sin City" when I first saw it. In high school, it was a movie a friend and I sneaked into due to its R-rating. My mind was blown and its been awhile since my mind had ever been that blown. Words can't explain how much my mind was blown. I was instantly rabid for a sequel, thought out of all sequels made in history, that one was a sure-thing. But then I waited and I waited and I waited. I thought it would never, ever happen. Now its finally here.
The thing is, will that end up hurting the film in the long run?
I mean Martin Scorsese tried to get "Gangs of New York" made since 1976. When it came out in 2002, while it was very good, it doesn't compare to the rest of Scorsese's filmography. When an artist sits on a passion project for as long as nine years, it doesn't always come out well on the other end. People change in almost a decade, they gain new ideas, new thoughts, new experiences. That all can affect the outcome of a film. I just hope this sequel doesn't suffer from that, I have waited too long and invested too much fandom into this thing for it fail.
Based on the trailer, its once again beautiful, booming and crazy. Based on the trailer, I am indefinitely excited. I very much hope that this film can live up to the hype, I hope Rodriguez can make the movie he should have made years ago. I hope.
Here's the trailer. Feast your eyes.
