Hollywood Grapevine

Hollywood Grapevine
Here are some stories circulating around movies today.

Fast and Furious 7 could be delayed
Paul Walker's sudden death recently shocked the world. Sadly, it also shocked Universal Studios, as the studio is trying to get "Fast and Furious 7" on its feet. The "Fast and Furious" franchise saw Paul Walker as one of the films protagonists, and he's appeared in all but one of the films. Not only that, but the "Fast and Furious" franchise is pretty much the most profitable franchise in Universal's pocket right now.

The studio and director James Wan are all trying to figure out how to go from here. The film is only half way through shooting, and the cast/crew were planning on Abu Dhabi to shoot additional scenes. Not only that, but the studio is on a time table, as the seventh film is scheduled for a July 11th 2014 release. All we know at this point is F&F7 will go on, we just don't know how yet. Once again, Paul Walker, you will be missed.

Fifth Bourne Movie Gets a Release Date
In speaking of Universal Studios, they are forwarding their plans on some of their other franchises, one of those revolves around the Bourne movies. A fifth Bourne film in the franchise will be released on August 14, 2015. It is being reported that Jeremy Renner will return as CIA Agent Aaron Cross from last years "The Bourne Legacy." I liked "The Bourne Legacy," but I didn't love it. I liked Jeremy Renner and I liked that they at least tried to connect it to the other films. It felt off though, something about it felt wrong. Hopefully, they find a clever way to inch this film into the franchise so that it compliments the rest of the series.

Cinematic DC Universe Expanding?
Looks like Marvel will have some stiff competition in the upcoming years.

Warner Bros and DC Pictures are planning some films based upon their lesser known characters. Movie adaptations of "Suicide Squad," "Team 7" and "Booster Gold" are currently being planned. In the comics, both "Suicide Squad" and "Team 7" are about two antihero groups. Each team is somewhat lead by Deathstroke a character who would intertwine the two franchises, it is also being planned that Deathstroke will get his own film. Deathstroke is the most deadliest assassin in the DC Universe, he is a prominent character on TV's "Arrow," played by Manu Bennett on the show.

"Booster Gold" tells the story of a futuristic superhero who fights for fame rather than for the good of humanity. It is also being reported that all of these films will take place in the "Man of Steel" Universe, the same film universe which will feature Ben Affleck's Batman. DC's plan is to create a coherent film universe similar to the one Marvel is doing right now.

It seems geeks of all comics are going to be satisfied soon. I've got mad respect for DC right now, something I never thought I would ever say. Let's hope this streak continues.

More on these stories as they formulate.
