What Actors Are Saying
Hugh Jackman wants a Marvel mash-up?
Well, it looks like the die hard comic fans are not the only ones who would love a huge mash-up of Marvel characters in a movie. It seems Australian actor Hugh Jackman envisions the day when we can see all our favorite Marvel characters in one movie. Here is what Jackman told the Collider this week:
"I literally asked the same question the other day to Tom from Marvel who works with all the other studios, he works with Sony and Fox, that’s his job to liaise. I said, ‘Man, can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy because you’re working with different studios and they’re their properties.’ But I believe -- maybe I’m optimistic, I understand at Marvel they’ve got The Avengers, they’ve got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them in together.”
It would make me incredibly happy if this were to happen, but I don't know how it could. Marvel and Fox are already creating a terrible rivalry, and its already causing lots of madness. The only way this could work is if Marvel gets their characters back from Fox and Sony, and I do not see that happening ever. Sony and Fox are going to do everything in their power to hold onto their properties because they are worth lots of money.
But one thing is for sure, its fun to daydream.
Andrew Garfield wants Spiderman to be gay?
In other news, it seems like Andrew Garfield wants to change some things about Spiderman's personality for the movies. The man behind the Spiderman outfit in the latest series is thinking of asking for Parker to be gay.
"“I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ,” he tells EW. “And I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking!…So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?"
Now, you know from today that I am supporter of gay rights. I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with gay characters in movies, even big blockbusters. But I have a problem with the tinkering of the mythology of characters. For movies, I don't mind minor changes are a big deal, but I feel like completely changing characters around is a major change. I think it would be a lot more special if Marvel, DC or a different comic company just created a brand new superhero that was gay. I think that works better than messing with sacred mythologies of characters that have been around for years. When Daredevil was created the blind community completely embraced him, finding something special in the first ever blind superhero. When the first African-Americans were heavily embraced by the African American community too. But what made those characters special was that they were the first of their kind, not some new trait that was added by an author.
I'm not completely opposed to a gay Spiderman, but if a movie about a gay Spiderman gets made, I think the alter ego shouldn't be Peter Parker. Have a new guy behind the suit, Parker's story is already so rich, Hollywood doesn't need to shoehorn some new traits into his personality. With all of that said, I think somebody should create a homosexual superhero, it could make for a good story if written write.
What do you guys think of an X-Men/Avengers/Spiderman mash-up movie?
