Who should play Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2
About a month ago, it was known throughout the internet that writer/director Joss Whedon plans to include Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the lineup for Avengers 2. That created quite a chatter. In the comics Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were reformed villains who became honorable and dependable members of the Avengers. They also happen to be the children of Magneto, the villain from X-Men. (Whether or not that trait will come up in the films is unlikely.)
Joss Whedon confirmed this week that this rumor is more reality, and that the writer is pushing very hard for these characters to appear in the second film.
"You know, they had a rough beginning. They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie to make things easier." Joss Whedon told IGN in an interview this week. So it seems to me that the possibility of seeing these characters in the second film is drawing close. It will be interesting to see how they handle these characters. Since they are mutants, and Marvel/Disney do not own the X-Men rights currently, I wonder if they will be mutants in the upcoming sequel. Or will 20th Century Fox be involved in the production of the sequel? All I know is I am excited to see the roster expand like this.
This has me thinking. Marvel so far in their Cinematic Universe, have done a wonderful job casting-wise. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner...they have all become these characters. Even supporting characters like Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman and others have made quite the impact with their characters. So I tried very hard to come up with a list of wonderful actors for the brother-sister duo. I have 5 actors for Quicksilver and 5 actresses for Scarlet Witch. Please let me know what you think.
5 actors for Quicksilver.
Quicksilver is a mutant superhero who has the ability to run at superhuman speeds. Essentially, the Marvel version of The Flash. So I would not look for a huge muscle actor to play this superhero. More track athlete build over football player.
1. Jonathon Rhys-Meyers
A truly underrated actor who could really bring this character to life. I've been a fan of Meyers ever since I saw him in Woody Allen's "Matchpoint" back in 2005. And he was also the only good thing to come out of "MI:III." Plus, Scarlett "Black Widow" Johansson was also in "Matchpoint" and the actors had good chemistry. So he already has a connection to one of the actors in this production.
2. Matt Bomer
If you haven't seen USA Television's "White Collar," you should jump onto the band wagon. Bomer does excellent work and I cant totally see him bring Quicksilver to life with ease. Plus, last year he was in "Magic Mike" and proved he can do well in both TV and movies. He was offered Superman a long time ago, but I think plans fell through. So he is at least open to superhero films.
3. Benedict Cumberbatch
The British actor has a very similar look to Quicksilver, and also has a similar build. I still haven't seen "Star Trek Into Darkness" and won't until next weekend, but from what I've read Cumberbatch is excellent. Plus he's got a ton of British films under his belt which he does very well in. "Star Trek" maybe his golden ticket into American productions, so why not suit up with Iron Man and Captain America in the upcoming sequel?
4. Tom Felton
Another actor who has a similar look to Quicksilver and proved in "Harry Potter" that he can handle a huge production. I loved all the young actors involved in the "Harry Potter" series and honestly, I hope for the best with all of them. The only thing about Felton is that, to my knowledge, he has only played villains. This could be an opportunity to prove that he can be a hero too.
5. Todd Lasance
Okay, so if you know me well, you know I have a ridiculous obsession with "Spartacus." It is definitely one of my favorite shows of the last ten years. I feel the cast was awesome and I believe they all deserve to go onto bigger careers, including this Australian actor. Lasance played Julius Caesar (that's right, THE Julius Caesar) and he totally killed the role. Even though Caesar was a villain, he had honorable, heroic beats on the show which really showed the actors range. I'd love for Lasance to break out in the industry, and a perfect way to do that would be to join a superhero production.
So that wraps up our boys...
5 Actresses for Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch is a mutant superhero who has the ability to manipulate probability and reality. She also can change reality altogether. That power came in huge display in the Marvel crossover "House of M" when she eliminated nearly every mutant from the Marvel Universe.
1. Eva Green
In last years "Dark Shadows" Green played a witch, so she has experience playing a witch. She's a great actress with a ton of range, which will come in handy giving Scarlet a dark edge. Green is also beginning to make a splash in Hollywood as she is finishing up work on "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" and "300: Rise of an Empire."
2. Rooney Mara
She has a similar look to the superhero so she has that going for her. Her acting is very good, so good she's been recognized by The Academy. Plus she has dark edge which would fit the bill of the character. Mara is becoming a star, a part in a superhero ensemble could push her over the edge.
3. Gemma Arterton
She has a connection with Renner through "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters." She's a great actress who has had stunt training and she definitely has the looks for the part. She has proven that she has a light and a dark side that the character needs.
4. Emily Blunt
First of all, Marvel already at least likes her, because she nearly nabbed the role of Black Widow. (She had to drop out of the role due to scheduling conflicts with another film.) She is a great actress who is a big enough name to not get swallowed up next to RDJ, Mark Ruffalo and Sam Jackson. She also looks the part to an almost tee.
5. Olga Kurylenko
She's edging very close to being a superstar, her talent seems to improve with ever new movie she is in and she is a pretty girl who looks the part. She's been involved in big productions like "Quantum of Solace" and "Max Payne." If you haven't heard the name, a spot in a superhero roster could bring her recognition up quite a bit.
There are many actors and actresses I did not mention in the list above who could fit the bill for these characters but these actors I like the best. What do you think? Who would you like to see play the brother-sister duo?
