One of the best books I have ever read in my life is "Ender's Game." I loved it so much that I read it twice. "Ender's Game" was originally written by Orson Scott Card and he created a huge series of Ender stories. I never plunged into the rest of the series, however I did read one or two of them.
Ever since I read "Ender's Game" I have dreamed of a film adaptation. Apparently, so did Hollywood because they have been trying to get a movie off its feet since 2000. Big names such as Will Smith, Tom Berenger, Sean Connery and Jake "Anakin Skywalker" Lloyd have been attached to the project at one point or another. Finally, in 2013 we will feast our eyes on "Ender's Game" as it moves 24-frames a second.
I am both pleased and reserved about an adaptation of "Ender's Game." Yes I have fantasized about a film adaptation for sometime and how cool it would be. But I have also thought to myself, perhaps some stories belong in one media outlet and not another. "Ender's Game" the book is very dense, descriptive and epic. The characters also possess lots of inner thoughts and attitudes that I just doubt would transfer to film very well. Plus, Alan Moore's "Watchmen" was a story I held very dear to my heart, and I felt Zack Snyder made a very mediocre re-telling of the classic superhero story.
"Ender's Game" centers around Ender Wiggin, a 9-year-old super-genius who is drafted by International Fleet to combat an alien race called the Buggers. The Buggers have attempted to invade Earth three times, and during their second invasion, they nearly wiped out the human race. The world government has now moved to draft child geniuses to help in the effort against The Buggers. Ender heads up in space to Battle School where training comes in the form of games. Ender is the top student at Battle School and wins all of the games, but is he the worlds last hope?
Yesterday, a trailer announcement and small preview was presented by Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield, two of the films stars. Check it out below:
The small preview looks very much like the book, and I am now very curious about the trailer hitting May 7th.
"Ender's Game" will star Asa Butterfleild, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit).
The film will be released on November 1st, 2013
