Hollywood Grapevine
Will RDJ be done with Iron Man after Avengers 2???

Its been all over the web the for the last few days that there is potential that Robert Downey Jr. will be done portraying Iron Man after Avengers 2. He apparently has been wrestling with the idea for a little while now and discussed it in an interview with Empire magazine recently.

"Let’s just say that the only thing I ever let go of had claw marks in it. There’s a little bit of soul reclamation going on. I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: How do you sustain something? I’m not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I’m not too picky about that either.”

That's what RDJ had to say about his time playing the character. He also goes on to say the following...

“[Recasting] would probably be the best thing in the world for me. You know, ego…but sometimes ego just has to be smashed. Let’s see what happens. I take the audience very seriously – I feel bad when I see folks doing movies and the audience is like, ‘Don’t do that anymore.’ I don’t have to overstay my welcome…”

My stomach and my heart are dropping at this point. I do not want RDJ to go. He was born to play this character. There are very few times in Hollywood that casting decisions are made in which the actor and character collide at an almost supernatural level. Just pick up some Iron Man comics and look at the artwork. RDJ was born to be Tony Stark. The resemblance is uncanny! His natural wit and charm are also spot-on Tony Stark characteristics. So to hear him even flirting with the idea of leaving is sad to me. Let's hope the fans can kick his ass into gear and keep him with the character.

"Iron Man 3" will be released on May 3rd 2013. It will star Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pierce, Jon Faveau, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Paul Bettany will return as the voice of JARVIS.

I shall definitely keep up with this story as it moves along...

  1. I agree that I think he's perfect for Iron Man, but I also see what he's saying about playing the same character over and over again. Hopefully the writers keep his character interesting enough so he'll stick with the character!

  2. I definitely understand what he is saying. I will respect the man if he chooses to move on. It is much better to leave on your own terms, because not everybody associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe had the same choice (i.e. Terrance Howard and Edward Norton.)
