A Closer Look at Amazing Spider-Man 2
"The Amazing Spider-man" is a movie that has fans cut right down the middle! Not the same reception compared to Sam Raimi's turn at the character. I personally thought "The Amazing Spider-man" was good, not great, not spectacular, but good. It had good acting, the special effects and cinematography looked great. However, I felt the story was too familiar. I feel it was WAY too early to reboot the Spider-man franchise. Plus there were a few character development beats that I felt were kind of annoying. I thought that even though Raimi didn't play as close to the comic as Mark Webb had, he had an overall better emotional development and character driven franchise so far.
I am even more scared of the films sequel. I think it's neat that we are finally getting the cinematic treatment of classic characters like Electro and Rhino. I was even curious to learn that Jamie Foxx would portray Electro in the film. Electro's looks, however, made me raise an eyebrow...
And the Electro from the comics...
So it's quite the interesting change.
I guess you can say I am a little intrigued by the change and how they plan to explain. I still can't picture Paul Giamatti playing someone like Rhino, that should be interesting too. We also have Chris Cooper playing Norman Osborn and Dean DeHaan playing Harry Osborn. We are going to see the introduction to Mary Jane Watson. The film will include some great supporting actors like Colm Feore, Felicity Jones and B.J. Novak starring in unknown roles.
Too much going on? That was the problem with "Spiderman 3". Too many characters, too many plot devices, too many villains. Will that happen again or will Mark Webb find a way to manage the character/plot overload and make it a great story?
I liked "Amazing Spider-man" enough to stay interested in the story. I am hoping they have made better narrative choices this time around. I am begging that they improve upon their character writing. I am intrigued by Electro's new design. I genuinely pray that the rest of series gets better and Sony hits the nail on the head this time around.
More updates on this as the story progresses.
